Fail Fast. Fail Forward. Fail Strategically. That’s the Shortcut to Success.

Fail Fast. Fail Forward. Fail Strategically. The Me Behind the Scenes Newsletter (February 2025)

Have you ever played it safe—not because you wanted to, but because the thought of failing felt unbearable, felt too costly?

For most of my life, failure wasn’t an option.

Like so many of us, I was raised to believe that failure was not an option and success meant getting it right the first time.

No mistakes. No stumbles. No setbacks.

Just a clean, straight path forward.

So, I did what I thought was right—I played small. I built my life around security and predictability.

I avoided risks—not because I lacked ambition, but because I feared what failure would say about me.

Would people see me as incapable? Incompetent? A fraud?

Worse—would I see myself that way?

So, I stayed within the lines.
❌I created routines.
❌I clung to control.
❌I avoided risk.

And in doing so, I kept myself from going big.
I modeled safety, not courage—for my students, for my daughter, for everyone around me.

I told myself I was making the responsible choice.
But in reality?
I was limiting myself.

It took me well into my 40s to finally confront this fear—to sit with it, examine it, unpack it.

I had to ask myself the hard questions:
Why does failure hold so much weight?
What am I really afraid of?
What have I lost by playing small?

And when I finally dug deep enough, I realized something powerful:
Failure isn’t a full stop—it’s a redirection.
Failure isn’t a verdict—it’s a teacher.

Then I started asking myself a different question:
👉🏾 What if failure is the only way forward?

The moment I shifted my perspective on failure, my world expanded.
I stopped letting setbacks stop me in my tracks.
➡️ I started failing fast.
➡️ I started failing forward.
➡️ I started failing strategically.

And instead of letting failure define me, I let it refine me.

In Fail Fast, Fail Often, Ryan Babineaux and John Krumboltz challenge us to stop waiting for perfect conditions and just act. They highlight a simple but powerful truth: The people who succeed aren’t the ones who avoid failure. They’re the ones who fail quickly, learn fast, and keep moving.

One story that stuck with me was about a ceramics class. The students who focused on making as many pots as possible, rather than obsessing over perfection, ended up producing the best-quality work.

Why? Because success isn’t about avoiding mistakes.
It’s about making enough of them to get better.
That’s when it clicked for me.
I needed to stop fearing failure and start failing fast, failing forward, and failing strategically.

Here are 3 lessons I’m carrying with me:

1️⃣ Mastering Mindset: Failure is a Catalyst, Not a Condemnation.

I used to think failure was proof that I wasn’t good enough. Now, I see it as proof that I’m in motion. If I’m failing, I’m learning. If I’m learning, I’m growing. And that is the goal.

2️⃣ Building Boundaries: The Fear of Failure Isn’t Really About Failure—It’s About Judgment.

I had to ask myself: Who am I really afraid of disappointing? Society? My family? Myself? Once I named the fear, I could challenge it. And once I challenged it, I could release it.

3️⃣ Fueling Forward: Keep a ‘Victory List.’

Every time I fail, I remind myself of every challenge I’ve already overcome. Every win I’ve already achieved. Because failure is an event—it is not me.

What About You?

I want to hear from you:

What’s a failure that actually led to something better?

Hit comment and tell me—I read every response.

And if you’re still wrestling with failure, I’ll leave you with this:

👉🏾 Fail fast. Fail forward. Fail strategically.

And always remember—you are not your failures. You are your victories.

Until next month,

Michelle

My Becoming Blueprint
What if your purpose isn’t something you chase—but something revealed through your personality? That question found me when I wasn’t even looking for it. I came across something that quietly rearranged me. It said: “The true essence of your purpose is personality-oriented—how God made you.” I must’ve read it twelve times. It didn’t just speak to me—it unlocked something. It ...
The Obedience I Wasn’t Taught…
What if everything you were taught about obedience was actually about control—not alignment? Obedience has been my teacher lately.  Not the kind tied to fear or striving—but the kind anchored in trust. As a child, I was taught obedience meant staying in line, doing as I was told, and not questioning authority. That message echoed through family, school, church—and later, boa...
What Does It Look Like To Dream Without Boundaries?
“I don’t dream big enough.” That's what I told my therapist. Saying those words out loud felt raw, like exposing a part of myself I hadn’t wanted to confront. I know how to work hard. I know how to build and push forward. But dreaming without boundaries? That felt like stepping into unknown territory. The truth is, I’ve always carried a sense of internal resistance when it c...

The Me Behind the Scenes

Hey there, I’m so glad you’re here. Welcome to my monthly newsletter. This is a space for reflection, real talk, and the kind of honesty we don’t always get to share in our day-to-day lives. It’s where I pull back the curtain and invite you into the moments that shape me—the lessons, the struggles, and the shifts that are helping me grow. Every month, I’ll bring you into my world, sharing the lessons I’m learning, the boundaries I’m building (or struggling with), and the mindset shifts that are keeping me grounded. This is a space where we embrace progress over perfection, where showing up as we are is enough. Inside each issue, you’ll find a short, heartfelt video where I talk through what’s been on my mind, a real and unfiltered story about navigating growth and resilience, and three key takeaways you can apply in your own life. Whether it’s a shift in mindset, a lesson in setting boundaries, or a small but powerful step to move forward, my hope is that you leave each newsletter feeling seen, understood, and empowered. Growth isn’t about getting it perfect—it’s about showing up, even when it’s messy. I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s do this together.
